WHITE ROOM 01

Festival EXPRESS EC 47 / Warsaw / PL
25.04.2006
performers: Piotr Wegrzynski, Sylvia Lajbig, Hellen Burrough, Maciej Dziaczko
music: Miroslaw Matyasik

Premiere of the WHITE ROOM project, created exclusively for Polish-German theatre festival EXPRESS EC 47. It was presented in a post-industrial space, which was transformed to imitate
an old asylum space, with no division into the “stage” and “audience” area.

In this performance the “white room” is represented by an aluminum construction with white curtains. At the beginning of the performance the patients are locked inside it and visible to the audience only via live video projection.
The patients (one male and two females) represent different kinds of broken identities.
The therapy methods used by the doctor deepen the traumas to the point where they get strong enough to overwhelm him. The Patients chain the doctor to the walls of the “white room” and leave
the asylum to become part of the crowd.
